Dodgers’ Bullpen Struggles Result in Extra-Innings Defeat to Marlins

Dodgers Suffer Late Loss to Marlins Despite Ohtani’s Heroics

MIAMI — The Los Angeles Dodgers appeared to be on track for a solid victory during Tuesday’s game against the Miami Marlins, but ultimately fell short in a heart-wrenching 5-4 loss. Tony Gonsolin shined in his second start following Tommy John surgery, allowing just two runs over five innings.

Shohei Ohtani showcased his remarkable talent at LoanDepot Park, hitting a game-tying home run in the sixth and a double in the seventh. “This is one of my favorite stadiums,” Ohtani remarked after his impressive performance.

However, the game revealed a critical concern for the Dodgers: their overworked bullpen. After entering the sixth inning with a 3-2 lead—thanks to home runs from Ohtani and Freddie Freeman—manager Dave Roberts turned to reliever Luis García. With the team’s primary starters exhausted from earlier appearances, García aimed to provide a manageable inning but struggled, immediately allowing a double to Agustin Ramírez. The Marlins capitalized, with Connor Norby’s line drive tying the game and Matt Mervis driving in the go-ahead run.

The Dodgers quickly responded with Ohtani tying the game once again. Yet, in the tense extra innings, Roberts chose journeyman reliever JP Feyereisen over more experienced options, which proved costly. With the bases loaded, Jesússánchez delivered a decisive single, sealing the Dodgers’ fate.

Despite the loss, the Dodgers maintain a strong season record of 24-12, but the bullpen fatigue poses a critical challenge moving forward. As the team reflects on Tuesday’s missteps, they will need to manage their pitching effectively to navigate the rigors of the season ahead.
