Kia Expands Charging Options for Electric Vehicle Owners
Kia America has announced that its electric vehicle (EV) owners can now access the Tesla Supercharger network, significantly enhancing their charging infrastructure. This addition includes over 21,500 DC fast chargers, bringing the total to more than 40,000 nationwide when combined with the existing 22,000 fast chargers from other networks.
EV drivers can utilize Tesla Superchargers via the Kia Access app, which aids in locating charging stations, checking availability, and viewing pricing. Future models, including the 2025 Kia EV6 and 2026 Kia EV9, will come equipped with standard North American Charging Standard (NACS) ports, eliminating the need for an adapter. Existing Kia EV owners using CCS1 ports can obtain NACS-to-CCS1 adapters from dealerships.
Seungkyu (Sean) Yoon, president and CEO of Kia North America, emphasized the company’s dedication to enhancing the ownership experience, stating that this collaboration with Tesla bolsters confidence for customers opting for fully electric vehicles. The integration of Tesla’s network is expected to increase Kia’s fast-charging capabilities by over 80%, reaffirming the brand’s commitment to leading the electrified mobility sector.
