Excitement Builds on Opening Day of the 2025 OC Fair
COSTA MESA, CA — The gates of the 2025 OC Fair swung open on Friday, July 18, welcoming a vibrant crowd eager for fun and family camaraderie. Among the first in line was 24-year-old Danny Visoso, who hadn’t attended the fair in over a decade. "I wanted to spend time with my family and have a good summer with them," he shared, looking forward to rides and delicious fair food.
The opening day was marked by a ceremonial ribbon-cutting led by James Canfield, the new CEO of the OC Fair and Events Center. As Canfield and Vice Chair Barbara Bagneris presented oversized scissors, a joyful atmosphere filled the air. Festivities included performances by the fair mascots and culinary showcases, such as Charlie Boghosian’s latest creation, "Food Beast," a unique dish integrated into a waffle cone.
Among the many highlights, Dan Smith Chavira proudly displayed his award-winning Portuguese focaccia, which earned accolades in the artisan leavened bread division. "This year’s win feels like redemption," he said. Numerous residents showcased their culinary talents, with competitive entries ranging from quilts to cupcakes.
The 2025 OC Fair, running through August 17 and closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, is expected to draw over a million attendees. New attractions include a 180-foot-tall ride called the Aviator and a lively after-dark swing dancing event during select nights at Plaza Pacifica.
Long-term fairgoers such as LuAnn Hillman and Steve Rosco, who have attended for over 40 years, marveled at the local talent displayed. "It’s beautiful… these are regular people with incredible skills," Rosco said.
As the fair continues, the excitement and community spirit promise to make this year’s event unforgettable.
