Sparks Snap Losing Streak with Victory Over Fever
INDIANAPOLIS – The Los Angeles Sparks ended their four-game losing streak with a decisive 85-75 win against the Indiana Fever on Thursday night, despite playing on the road and facing a short-handed opponent.
Azurá Stevens led the charge for the Sparks, scoring 23 points, while Kelsey Plum added 21 points and six assists. The Fever, missing star player Caitlin Clark due to a groin injury, struggled to maintain momentum. Clark had recently returned from another injury but was unable to participate in the matchup.
The first half was competitive, with Indiana leading 31-22 at one point. However, the Sparks ignited an 8-0 run, narrowing the gap before the halftime buzzer. The Fever maintained a 34-30 lead at the break by forcing a remarkable 15 turnovers.
A pivotal moment came with less than five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, when Plum made a key three-pointer, giving the Sparks a 67-66 lead—their first since the early second quarter. This shot ignited a 21-8 scoring run that allowed LA to seize control of the game.
In the closing moments, the Sparks secured their victory by capitalizing on offensive rebounds, with Dearica Hamby’s layup putting them up 79-75. Although she missed the ensuing free throw, Stevens collected the rebound and completed a three-point play, effectively sealing the win.
Alongside Stevens and Plum, Hamby and Rickea Jackson contributed 14 points each. For the Fever, Kelsey Mitchell led the team with 20 points, while Aliyah Boston recorded a double-double with 12 points, 10 rebounds, and five steals.
The Sparks improved to 5-11, while the Fever’s record stands at 7-8 following the defeat.
