Authorities are currently conducting an extensive manhunt for Vance Boelter, the suspected gunman responsible for a series of politically motivated shootings in Minnesota. On Saturday morning, Boelter allegedly killed State Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, while also injuring State Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, who are both hospitalized.
Boelter, 57, has been identified as armed and dangerous. He reportedly impersonated law enforcement to gain access to the lawmakers’ homes, with photographs circulating that appear to show him at one of the victim’s doors wearing a bulletproof vest and a cowboy hat. His vehicle was located in Sibley County, prompting local officials to issue alerts urging residents to secure their homes and vehicles.
Described as being 6-foot-1 with brown hair, Boelter is a married father of five with reported past involvement in international work in Africa. He has spoken publicly about his work in the Democratic Republic of Congo where he was engaged in agricultural projects and delivered church sermons.
Despite his community ties, a roommate expressed disbelief at the violent allegations, stating Boelter was a loving and caring individual. A final message from Boelter indicated turmoil, as he expressed love to friends and implied he might not survive.
Amid the ongoing investigation, the FBI has placed a $50,000 reward for information leading to Boelter’s arrest. Authorities continue to caution the public against approaching him, prioritizing safety as they seek to bring him into custody.
