Sinner Shines in French Open Third Round, Djokovic Advances
PARIS — Jannik Sinner showcased his dominance in the French Open’s third round with a stunning 6-0, 6-1, 6-2 victory over Jiri Lehecka, marking the quickest men’s match at Roland Garros this year. The match lasted just 1 hour and 34 minutes, extending Sinner’s remarkable Grand Slam winning streak to 17 matches. The crowd erupted into applause when Lehecka finally won a game, but Sinner’s performance left little doubt of his superiority, evidenced by 31 winners and a mere nine unforced errors.
Sinner, the defending U.S. Open and Australian Open champion, is on track to add a French Open title to his resume. He will face No. 17 Andrey Rublev in the quarterfinals after Rublev’s opponent withdrew due to injury.
Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic also advanced to the fourth round, defeating qualifier Filip Misolic 6-3, 6-4, 6-2, making it 16 consecutive years reaching this stage.
In women’s matches, No. 3 seed Jessica Pegula eliminated 2019 finalist Marketa Vondrousova while American qualifier Hailey Baptiste reached the fourth round for the first time. Sunday promises more excitement as No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka and defending champions Iga Swiatek and Carlos Alcaraz take to the court.
