Shane "Sugar" Mosley Inducted into California Sports Hall of Fame

Lynwood, CA – Boxing legend Shane "Sugar" Mosley is set to receive a prestigious honor this weekend as he is inducted into the California Sports Hall of Fame. The ceremony will take place on Sunday, June 29, at the Ontario Convention Center, where he will join fellow sports greats including Super Bowl champion Jesse Sapolu, four-time Olympic gold medalist Janet Evans, soccer icon Paul Caligiuri, and NFL wide receiver Ron Brown.

"Shane Mosley exemplifies the spirit of a true champion," said Christian Okoye, founder of the Hall of Fame. "It is a privilege to welcome him as a Hall of Famer."

Mosley, born in Lynwood and raised in Pomona, began boxing at just eight years old, guided by his father. With an impressive amateur record of 250 wins and 16 losses, he transitioned to professional boxing in 1993, quickly making a name for himself. By 1997, he had earned the IBF lightweight title and continued to collect world championships across three weight divisions, including the WBC and WBA titles.

Throughout his illustrious career, Mosley faced and defeated some of the sport’s biggest names, including Oscar De La Hoya—whom he defeated twice—Antonio Margarito, and Ricardo Mayorga. His high-profile matches against champions like Floyd Mayweather Jr., Manny Pacquiao, and Canelo Álvarez cemented his legacy as one of boxing’s all-time greats.

Retiring in 2016 with a record of 49 wins, 10 losses, and 1 draw, including 41 knockouts, Mosley’s contributions to the sport have been recognized with multiple Fighter of the Year awards.

Tickets for the gala are available at California Sports Hall of Fame, and the festivities begin at 4 p.m. with a reception, followed by dinner and the induction ceremony starting at 5 p.m.
