UCLA Softball Dominates UC Santa Barbara in NCAA Regional Opener

LOS ANGELES — The UCLA Bruins triumphed over UC Santa Barbara, securing a decisive 9–1 victory in their NCAA Los Angeles Regional opener on Friday. Despite a rocky start, falling behind 1–0 in the second inning, UCLA showcased its resilience, rallying to take control of the game.

The turning point came in the fourth inning when sophomore Kaitlyn Terry launched a three-run homer, propelling the Bruins into the lead. In the sixth, graduate student Jessica Clements added to the team’s momentum with another three-run bomb, stretching UCLA’s lead to 6–1. Junior Jordan Woolery contributed with an RBI single, and junior Megan Grant rounded out the inning with a two-run homer, highlighting the team’s power hitting.

With three home runs—one each from Terry, Clements, and Grant—UCLA’s offense was formidable, accounting for eight of their nine runs. The Bruins displayed their depth, racking up a total of 10 hits throughout the match.

On the pitching front, junior Taylor Tinsley started strong, allowing just one run on three hits over four innings, striking out one and walking one. Terry took over in relief, delivering two scoreless innings and securing the win with only one hit allowed and one strikeout.

The game concluded after six innings due to the NCAA’s run-rule, which ends a game when a team leads by eight or more runs after five frames.

With this victory, UCLA advances to face San Diego State in the next round of the regional on Saturday, setting the stage for another thrilling matchup in their pursuit of NCAA glory.
