Huntington Park, CA — In a significant corruption investigation dubbed "Operation Dirty Pond," several key locations in Huntington Park, including the city hall, the mayor’s residence, and homes of current and former council members, were raided on Wednesday by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. The probe focuses on the potential misuse of public funds amidst a $14 million project intended for the construction of a regional aquatic center.
Initiated in November 2022, the investigation scrutinizes funds allocated for what was projected to be a vital community facility. The Huntington Park Regional Aquatic Center was designed to feature an Olympic-size pool, gym, and other amenities, but residents have yet to see any progress. "This is a project that has yielded nothing for the residents," commented Vice Mayor Arturo Flores. He noted that the considerable funds spent had resulted in "only an empty lot with dead grass."
Former council member Linda Caraballo disclosed that she had previously sent a detailed 282-page report to the DA’s Office, bringing attention to alleged corruption within city governance. She warned that “heads are going to roll,” urging implicated officials to seek legal counsel. Another former council member, Valentin Amezquita, suggested that this investigation might reveal additional corrupt practices, calling for a forensic audit of past city contracts.
As officials executed search warrants, they seized public records, financial documents, and electronic devices. DA Nathan J.
