UCLA Softball Secures No. 9 Seed in NCAA Tournament
OKLAHOMA CITY — In a remarkable debut season as a Big Ten member, UCLA has garnered a No. 9 national seed for the NCAA softball tournament, marking the Bruins’ 40th appearance in the championship. With a stellar record of 49-10 and a 17-5 conference finish, UCLA will host the Los Angeles Regional after narrowly falling to Michigan 2-0 in the Big Ten tournament final.
The Bruins, as the regional No. 1 seed, are set to face No. 4 seed UC Santa Barbara at 4:30 p.m. PDT on Friday, with the matchup broadcast on ESPN+. Meanwhile, No. 2 seed Arizona State will compete against No. 3 seed San Diego State at 7 p.m. on ESPN2.
Other teams making headlines include Texas A&M, which has captured the overall No. 1 seed in the NCAA Division I softball tournament, edging out defending champions Oklahoma. The SEC boasts seven teams in the top eight, with Oklahoma also finishing as the SEC regular-season champion.
Florida State, the ACC regular-season frontrunner, stands as the highest seed outside the SEC, following their national title win in 2018 and multiple runner-up finishes. Other notable entrants include Texas at No. 6 and Tennessee at No. 7, featuring rising star Karlyn Pickens. LSU and Nebraska, led by former Oklahoma pitcher Jordyn Bahl, are poised for competition in the Baton Rouge Regional.
As the tournament progresses, the final eight teams will advance to the Women’s College World Series, set to take place in Oklahoma City from May 29 to June 5.
This year’s tournament promises to showcase a fierce race, featuring top-tier teams from across the country, all vying for collegiate softball’s highest honor.
