Helping Homes Rise Again: The Foothill Catalog Foundation Launches Affordable Rebuilding Initiative
Altadena, CA – In light of the devastation caused by the recent Eaton Fire, the Foothill Catalog Foundation (TFCF) is taking a proactive approach to home rebuilding by offering pre-approved designs inspired by historic Sears home kits of the early 1900s. On May 4, over 400 attendees gathered at the Sierra Madre Woman’s clubhouse for a design showcase where they explored 30 architectural designs aimed at meeting modern building regulations.
Co-founders Alex Athenson and Cynthia Sigler revealed plans to have the first ten designs ready for construction approval by the end of July. This initiative seeks to alleviate the financial burden of rebuilding by reducing construction and permitting costs and expediting timelines to around 8-12 months.
Partnering with San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity, TFCF plans to create accessible designs for homeowners affected by the fire, many of whom are navigating the complex rebuilding process for the first time. The foundation aims to invigorate community engagement and provide diverse architectural options—addressing both affordability and the preservation of local heritage.
Upcoming presentations and showcases will continue to foster community feedback, ensuring that TFCF’s offerings resonate with residents. For more information, visit Foothillcatalog.org.
