Man Sentenced to 26 Years for High-Speed Crash in South LA That Killed Three Rideshare Passengers in Orange County – Daily News

Los Angeles Man Sentenced for Fatal Crash that Claimed Lives of Sisters and Friend

Los Angeles—Gregory Black, 34, was sentenced to 26 years in state prison on May 5 for the tragic high-speed crash that killed Orange County sisters Kimberly Izquierdo, 27, and Veronica Amezola, 23, along with their childhood friend Juvelyn Arroyo, 23. Black accepted a plea deal, receiving 18 years for probation violation and an additional eight years for three felony counts of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence.

The collision occurred on August 26, 2023, when Black, already on probation for an attempted murder case, sped through a red light, crashing into an Uber rideshare. The force of the impact caused the vehicle to spin violently before hitting a wall. Three other passengers sustained critical injuries.

Family members expressed their frustration at the sentencing, demanding a longer sentence of 25 years to life for each victim. “I want justice,” stated Araceli Izquierdo, the victims’ mother. Loved ones gathered at the Compton courthouse, sharing poignant tributes to the deceased, lamenting the loss of their futures. Valeria Amezola, the victims’ sister, poignantly recalled how her sisters would miss key life moments, highlighting the void left in their lives. The sentiment was echoed by friends recalling the profound impact the sisters had on their lives.
