Hyeseong Kim Promoted to Dodgers Amid Injury Struggles
ATLANTA — Hyeseong Kim’s journey from South Korea to the major leagues took a significant step forward when the Los Angeles Dodgers called him up from Triple-A Oklahoma City after placing Tommy Edman on the injured list due to an ankle injury. The 26-year-old infielder, who signed a three-year, $12.5 million contract with the Dodgers last winter, expressed his excitement about the promotion after learning the news from his Triple-A manager following Friday’s game.
Though Kim’s debut may be brief, as Edman is expected to return next week, he’s eager to demonstrate his skills at the major league level. In 28 games with Oklahoma City, Kim posted a .252 average accompanied by five home runs and 19 RBIs, showcasing versatility by playing multiple positions. Despite adjustments to his swing, including a reduced leg kick, Kim maintains a positive outlook on his transition to MLB. "I still have to work on it, but I feel very confident," he stated.
Manager Dave Roberts emphasized that the Dodgers view this stint as an opportunity for Kim to gain experience against top-tier pitching. On the horizon, the Dodgers continue to monitor Shohei Ohtani’s rehabilitation as he progresses toward facing hitters once again.
