Press Release: Local Lawmaker Advocates for California Film Industry
Santa Clarita, CA – During a recent visit to the set of Fallout Season 2 at local studios, Senator Suzette Martinez Valladares highlighted the economic impact of the film industry in California. The production, which relocated from New York thanks to a $25 million tax credit, now employs over 700 locals and generates significant economic activity in the region.
Senator Valladares expressed her awe at the detail and craftsmanship of the set, emphasizing the crucial role of skilled workers—camera operators, set builders, and costume designers—who rely on the industry for their livelihoods. However, she warned that California’s dominant position is under threat as productions increasingly migrate to states with more attractive incentives, notably New York and Georgia.
To combat this trend, Valladares is co-authoring SB 630, aimed at modernizing the state’s Film and TV tax credit. She stresses that this initiative is essential for maintaining good jobs and supporting hundreds of thousands of families across California. With Santa Clarita issuing 588 film permits in 2023, generating an estimated $37.2 million, Valladares urged her colleagues to support the bill to preserve California’s status as the entertainment capital of the world.
The Senate Appropriations Committee will hear SB 630 on Monday.
