Press Release: Graduates Celebrate Success in Advanced Manufacturing Program
North Adams, Mass. — On Thursday, eight students proudly graduated from the Advanced Manufacturing Technology Program, marking a significant achievement in local workforce development. This free 200-hour course, the first under the state’s Career Technical Initiative grants, was hosted at McCann Technical School, which received funding for advanced manufacturing, welding, and automotive technology programs.
Graduates received folios containing multiple certifications, reflecting their hard work since February. Among the certifications earned were OSHA 10 General Industry, SolidWorks Associate, and various CNC certifications. “I wanted to better myself,” said graduate Jason Lane, praising the program for its accessibility and valuable learning experiences.
Instructor Thomas Matuszak commended the students for their dedication and the volume of work they accomplished. “They exceeded anything that I could have imagined,” he remarked. The program involved classes held Monday through Thursday, culminating in multiple certifications through the Manufacturing Advancement Center Workforce Innovation Collaborative.
Graduates now possess an online portfolio, allowing potential employers to view their certifications via a simple QR code. To further enhance their career readiness, the curriculum included job writing skills, interviewing techniques, and resume preparation.
Melanie Herzig from MassHire Berkshire Career Center highlighted the program’s significance, stating it equips graduates with skills for in-demand jobs in the local manufacturing sector. Superintendent James Brosnan encouraged the graduates to maintain connections with their instructors, emphasizing the value of networking in their job searches.
The course exemplifies collaboration between McCann Technical School, MassHire, and the Commonwealth Corporation, paving the way for future training programs starting this fall. This initiative reflects a commitment to enhancing the skilled workforce in Berkshire County.
