Loyola Marymount Advances to NCAA Beach Volleyball Championship
In a historic turn of events for NCAA Beach Volleyball, Loyola Marymount University (LMU) is set to compete for its first national championship after defeating four-time reigning champion USC and top-seeded UCLA in thrilling matches. This marks the first time since the tournament’s inception in 2016 that neither UCLA nor USC will compete for the title.
Under the guidance of head coach John Mayer, LMU (38-6) pulled off a remarkable 3-2 victory over UCLA, which was vying for its sixth national title. Key performances came from Chloe Hooker and Vilhelmiina Prihti, along with Isabelle Reffel and Magdalena Rabitsch, who each secured vital wins in a tightly contested semifinal.
LMU previously triumphed over USC, winning 3-1 in the quarterfinals, setting the stage for a captivating final match against second-seeded Texas Christian University (TCU), also seeking its first title. The championship will take place Sunday morning at 7:30 a.m. PT, broadcast live on ESPN.
With the Lions defying expectations and showcasing resilience, they could establish themselves as the new power in NCAA beach volleyball by capturing the championship.
