Good Samaritans Save Woman from Carjacking Attempt in New Jersey, Officials Report

On a Thursday morning in Camden County, New Jersey, three good Samaritans intervened to save a woman being attacked during an attempted carjacking. The incident took place around 8:30 a.m. on Jackson Road in Waterford Township. A man, identified as 45-year-old Rondean McDonald, had crashed his vehicle into a wooded area and approached a 59-year-old woman who had stopped to assist him. After ripping open her car’s passenger door, McDonald attempted to force her to drive him away.

When the victim refused and tried to call 911, McDonald snatched her phone and violently attacked her, scratching her and choking her in the process. Witness Joseph Knazek observed the struggle, reporting that McDonald was wrestling with the woman, and her seatbelt was caught around her neck. Knazek intervened by grasping McDonald’s wrists to help free her.

Two Army reservists, one of whom was a Philadelphia police officer, also noticed the commotion and joined the effort. One of the soldiers used a fire extinguisher to break the driver’s side window and pull McDonald out of the car. Together, they restrained him until police arrived on the scene.

The victim was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition, while McDonald was arrested and faces multiple charges, including carjacking and driving while intoxicated. This brave intervention by the bystanders highlights the importance of community vigilance and courage in the face of violence.
