George Lucas and Mellody Hobson Unveil Plans for Innovative Museum

Los Angeles is set to welcome the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art in 2026, as filmmaker George Lucas and his wife, Mellody Hobson, co-CEO of Ariel Investments, commemorate their passion for art. This new cultural landmark, located next to the L.A. Coliseum, will showcase an extensive collection that emphasizes narrative art—the storytelling power of images across various mediums.

Hobson has amassed a significant collection of contemporary African American art, while Lucas boasts over four decades of experience in American art collection. The 300,000-square-foot museum will feature 100,000 square feet of gallery space and is designed by MAD Architects, with a smooth, organic exterior reflecting the surrounding landscape.

The museum’s ambitious $1 billion project includes two theaters, a café, and a vibrant outdoor landscape encompassing gardens and walkways. Key works will include pieces by celebrated artists like Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, as well as contributions from comic and mural artists.

This museum aims to explore the societal influence of narrative art, inspiring imagination and community, making it a crucial addition to Los Angeles’s growing cultural scene.
