Crespi Clinches Mission League Title with Thrilling Win Over Harvard-Westlake
ENCINO, CA — Crespi High School’s baseball team celebrated a dramatic 7-6 victory over Harvard-Westlake on May 2, 2025, securing at least a share of the Mission League title for the first time since 2010. The win capped a three-game series, with Crespi triumphing 2-1.
The tension peaked in the bottom of the seventh inning when Crespi pitcher Mikey Martinez struck out power hitter Miguel Villegas, sealing the victory. Despite being out-hit 9-3, Crespi’s offensive strategy shone through, particularly in the sixth inning when Nate Lopez delivered a pivotal three-run double.
“Everyone did their part… we played free," said Lopez, who overcame a slow start at the plate to be a game-changer. Troy Miller also contributed with a leadoff double, igniting the team’s morale.
Harvard-Westlake’s Jack Laffitte, who had two RBIs, emphasized their rigorous practice routine. "We work hard every single day… that daily grind pays off," he noted.
As the season continues, Crespi will face Chaminade, while Harvard-Westlake prepares for a series against Loyola, both vying for playoff positions ahead of the CIF Southern Section pairings on May 12.
