Federal Agents Target Wrong Family in Human Smuggling Raid
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A family in Oklahoma City experienced severe distress after federal immigration agents mistakenly raided their home while executing a search warrant in connection with a human smuggling operation. The incident occurred on April 24, just two weeks after the mother and her three daughters moved into the residence.
In an emotional interview with KFOR-TV, the mother recounted how nearly 20 armed agents stormed their home early in the morning. Despite their pleas that the individuals named in the search warrant did not reside there, the agents were reportedly dismissive. The family was forced outside in the rain, clad only in undergarments, as agents searched the property.
The mother stated that the agents confiscated their phones, computers, and their life savings in cash. A U.S. Department of Homeland Security official acknowledged the error, clarifying that agents were executing a court-authorized search as part of a broader investigation involving Guatemalan citizens. The official noted that the search warrant mistakenly included the family’s new address, previously occupied by the intended targets. However, the official did not comment on the family’s claims regarding the confiscated items, which remain unreturned.
