Los Angeles prosecutors chose not to file charges against Jillian Shriner, wife of a Weezer band member, during her first court appearance on Wednesday. Shriner was involved in a serious incident on April 8, when she allegedly fired a shot at police officers responding to a car crash in her Eagle Rock neighborhood. The LAPD reported that Shriner emerged from her home brandishing a handgun, prompting officers to demand that she put the weapon down. Body-worn camera footage captured the moments when Shriner raised her gun and fired, leading to LAPD officers returning fire, which resulted in Shriner being wounded in the shoulder.
After receiving medical treatment, Shriner was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder of police officers. However, following her arrest, she was released on a $1 million bail. In court, a deputy district attorney informed the judge that the LAPD has yet to present all collected evidence, and as a result, the prosecution has not decided on formal charges. Law enforcement sources indicated that while the LAPD has shared its evidence with the District Attorney’s office, they are awaiting additional information from the California Highway Patrol, which also had personnel at the scene.
Shriner’s defense attorney did not respond to media inquiries regarding the case. The ongoing nature of the investigation suggests that further developments may occur as more evidence becomes available.
