Rain-Induced Mudslides Force Temporary Closure of Pacific Coast Highway
Pacific Palisades, CA — Rainfall resulted in mudslides that temporarily closed a section of the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) on Saturday. The affected area included PCH from Sweetwater Canyon Road in Malibu to Chautauqua Boulevard in Pacific Palisades, as reported by Caltrans Quickmap.
Officials noted significant mud accumulation that required clearing at Tuna Canyon Road, located west of Highway 27. To ensure safety and allow for necessary clean-up, PCH was scheduled to reopen Sunday at 6 a.m. under soft-closure conditions. This reopening permits access only to residents who possess burn scar passes, along with contractors, emergency responders, and designated buses.
Travelers and residents are encouraged to stay informed about road conditions and updates by checking Caltrans District 7’s official page on X.
As of now, safety measures remain a top priority in the region, particularly given the risks associated with the recent Palisades fire burn scar. Further information will be provided as it becomes available.
