Frankie Amaya Joins LAFC on Loan: Excitement Builds Ahead of Potential Debut
Los Angeles, CA — In a swift turn of events, Frankie Amaya, the talented midfielder originally from Santa Ana, has been loaned from Toluca FC to the Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC). The move comes just days before LAFC’s match against St. Louis City at BMO Stadium, where Amaya could make his debut.
At a press conference, the 24-year-old expressed enthusiasm about joining LAFC, stating, “It’s a little bit of a different system, but I think I’m very comfortable adapting super fast.” He is ready to contribute immediately, having been eager to play since his time in Liga MX, where he made 15 appearances last season.
Amaya, the first overall pick in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft, began his career at UCLA before joining FC Cincinnati and later being traded to the New York Red Bulls. Reflecting on his journey, he said, “It’s always good to get out of your comfort zone…and I’m happy to be back in MLS…closer to home.”
The acquisition of Amaya, alongside free agent Ryan Raposo, provides head coach Steve Cherundolo with much-needed depth in the midfield. LAFC has heavily relied on players like Mark Delgado and Timothy Tillman this season, and the reinforcements aim to reduce the risk of injury or fatigue while enhancing the team’s overall tempo.
Delgado noted, "You’re just adding more ammunition…creating more of a competitive environment, which is great." Meanwhile, Amaya is determined to showcase his skills, stating, “I just want to show what I have…It feels good to be back with a very strong team like LAFC.”
Fans can look forward to Amaya’s potential debut on Sunday at 4 PM, broadcasted on Apple TV and radio.
