Rob Pelinka, Lakers General Manager, receives multiyear extension and new role

The Los Angeles Lakers have extended Rob Pelinka’s contract and named him president of basketball operations and general manager, the team announced on Friday. Lakers governor Jeanie Buss praised Pelinka’s vision and leadership, stating that she believes in his ability to deliver championship-caliber basketball for the team and its fans.

Pelinka’s trades for Dorian Finney-Smith and Luka Dončić this season significantly impacted the Lakers, with the Dončić trade being considered one of the biggest in sports history. He also identified JJ Redick early in the coaching search, leading the Lakers to a 50-32 record and the No. 3 seed in the playoffs, their best finish since the 2019-20 championship season.

Pelinka joined the Lakers in 2017 as general manager and was promoted to vice president of basketball operations in 2020. Under his leadership, the team won the 2020 NBA title.

This extension solidifies Pelinka’s position as a key figure within the Lakers organization, with expectations high for continued success on the court. Fans are optimistic about the direction of the team under his leadership, with hopes of another championship in the near future.
