Kamala Harris leads in California governor’s race poll, according to CBS47 and KSEE24

Former Vice President Kamala Harris would have a significant lead if she decides to run for California governor in 2026, according to a recent poll conducted by Inside California Politics/Emerson College. The survey of 1,000 registered voters showed that 31% would support Harris if she entered the race, with Democrat Katie Porter following at 8%. Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco, a Republican, received 4% support.

While voters are divided on whether Harris should run, with 50% in favor and 50% against, the potential entrance of Harris significantly impacts the dynamics of the race. Without Harris, Porter becomes an early frontrunner with support rising to 21% among Democrats.

The poll also delved into other issues including Governor Gavin Newsom’s future political aspirations, President Trump’s tariff policies, and the upcoming Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. A majority of voters believe Newsom should not run for president in 2028, and see tariffs as a consumer tax rather than a tax on trade partners. When it comes to the Olympics, 32% are very interested, 44% are somewhat interested, and 24% are not interested at all.

The poll results reflect the current political landscape in California and shed light on potential candidates and issues that may shape the 2026 governor’s race. Voters’ opinions on key topics such as potential presidential bids, trade policies, and large-scale events like the Olympics provide valuable insights into the preferences and concerns of Californians.
