What is known about the suspect in the arson at Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro’s residence

Cody A. Balmer, 38, was charged with attempted criminal homicide, aggravated arson, burglary, terrorism, and other counts in connection with an arson attack at Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro’s home over the weekend. Balmer allegedly climbed the residence’s fence, used a hammer to break a window, and threw Molotov cocktails inside to start the blaze. Despite the governor and his family being inside at the time, no one was injured in the fire, but the residence sustained substantial damage. Balmer turned himself in to the Pennsylvania State Police and admitted to harboring hatred towards Governor Shapiro. Security camera footage captured Balmer breaking into the home and starting the fire, as well as fleeing the scene. Investigators found broken glass beer bottles containing gasoline in the dining room, matching gloves, and other evidence linking Balmer to the crime. The suspect admitted that if Shapiro had found him inside the residence, he would have beaten him with his hammer. Balmer was arrested and charged with multiple serious offenses. The governor and his family were safely evacuated from the home during the incident.
