Plane carrying 6 passengers crashes in New York with no survivors

A private plane crashed in Columbia County, New York, killing all six people on board, including recent MIT graduate James Santoro, former MIT soccer player Karenna Groff, her family members, and Jared Groff’s partner. The crash occurred as the plane was preparing for a second landing attempt at Columbia County Airport. The pilot had reported a missed approach and was flying by instrument in snowy conditions. The Mitsubishi MU-2B aircraft, with an experienced pilot, crashed at a high rate of descent into the ground. The plane, registered to Dynamic Spine Solutions LLC, had recently been upgraded with a new avionics package. Investigators have reviewed video footage of the crash, but it is unlikely to be released publicly. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the incident, and the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office has not yet confirmed the identities of the victims. The crash devastated the friends and family of the victims, who were en route to a holiday celebration at the time of the tragedy.
