The top two high school baseball teams in California, Corona and Huntington Beach, suffered defeats in the semifinals of the National High School Invitational in North Carolina. Corona, with 15 consecutive victories, lost 5-0 to Venice after Ethin Bingaman gave up four runs in the fifth inning. Huntington Beach was beaten 3-2 by Jacksonville Trinity Christian after giving up two runs in the bottom of the seventh on an error. The Oilers had a 2-1 lead going into the bottom of the seventh, but errors allowed the tying and winning runs to score. Despite Trent Grindlinger and Porter hitting consecutive RBI doubles, Huntington Beach ultimately fell short. Both teams had to adjust to the early start time due to the East Coast time change (10:30 a.m. EDT), which may have affected their performance. This challenging loss comes as a setback for these top California teams, who will be looking to bounce back in future games.
