Daily News: USWNT falls to Brazil on last-minute goal

In a thrilling match, Brazil defeated the U.S. women’s national team 2-1 with Amanda Gutierres scoring the winning goal in stoppage time. This victory marked the first time Brazil had beaten the U.S. since 2014. Catarina Macario put the U.S. ahead just 34 seconds into the game, but Brazil equalized with Kerolin’s goal in the 24th minute. The U.S. goalkeeper Mandy McGlynn couldn’t reach the long-distance shot. Gutierres then secured the win for Brazil with a goal deep into stoppage time off a cross from Luany.

This match saw some new faces in the U.S. lineup, including McGlynn making her third start and Alyssa and Gisele Thompson starting together, becoming the first sisters to start for the United States since the Mewis sisters in 2021. Coach Emma Hayes made seven changes from the previous match, with the U.S. starters having the fewest national team appearances in 24 years. The team’s next games will be against China on May 31 and June 3. Trinity Rodman, who missed the match due to a back injury, is part of the team’s formidable front trio alongside Sophia Smith and Mallory Swanson.
