Daily News: Angels rest Mike Trout and give him a break from right field against Guardians

ANAHEIM – Mike Trout was moved to the designated hitter spot in a preservation-minded lineup change by the Angels on Saturday. Manager Ron Washington emphasized that the move was not due to injury but was aimed at injury prevention and giving Trout a break from playing in right field. Trout has struggled offensively, hitting just four hits in seven games, but is showing some power with two home runs. The Angels are focused on keeping Trout healthy and on the field, as he has been plagued by injuries over the past few seasons.

Jorge Soler, who is not known for his defensive abilities, was given a chance to play in the field in place of Trout. Three players who left Friday’s game with injuries were feeling better, with Luis Rengifo expected to play on Saturday. Yoan Moncada, who left Friday’s game with a hand injury, was not in the starting lineup but is not expected to go on the injured list. Kyren Paris, normally an outfielder, was back on the infield due to Moncada’s absence. The Angels will face the Cleveland Guardians on Sunday, with Tyler Anderson starting for the Angels and Luis Ortiz for the Guardians.
