Ontario to Welcome Dodgers Franchise Stadium and Giant Sports Complex

The Los Angeles Dodgers are building a new sports complex in south Ontario on former dairy land, which will house a Single A Dodgers affiliate team and nearly 50 sports fields. The groundbreaking ceremony attracted over 100 attendees, including Dodgers officials and retired third baseman Ron Cey. The minor league team, set to begin play in April 2026, will replace the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes as the local Dodger affiliate. The complex, named Ontario Empire Sports, will feature a new baseball stadium, multiple baseball, softball, and soccer fields, and accommodate travel teams from Southern California and beyond. The $400 million project is funded in part by Measure Q sales tax and includes plans for hotels, restaurants, and a stadium village. With both Rancho Cucamonga and Ontario hosting Single A minor league teams, it is believed that their growing populations will sustain the fan base for both teams. The completion of the complex in 2026 will mark a significant transformation for the area, from dairy farms to a bustling sports hub. Suggestions are being sought for the team’s new name, with a deadline of Nov. 8 to submit ideas. The Ontario team is expected to draw from the south and west, while the Quakes will continue to attract fans from the north and east, creating a robust market for minor league baseball in the region.
