Raymond Childs III, a 21-year-old man from Indianapolis, was convicted of six counts of murder, including the shooting deaths of five people, including family members and a pregnant woman. The killings occurred in January 2021 following an argument over Childs staying out late. Childs methodically went from room to room in the house, shooting the victims, which included his father, stepmother, stepsiblings, and his brother’s girlfriend, who was nearly due to give birth.
After a five-day trial, a jury deliberated for three hours before finding Childs guilty of murder, attempted murder, and carrying a handgun without a license. Childs’ first trial had ended in a mistrial after a witness confronted him in front of the jury.
Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears expressed satisfaction with the conviction, stating that the severity of the crime was still as shocking in the present as it was in 2021. He commended the efforts of the trial team, law enforcement, and witnesses for their dedication to seeking justice for the victims.
Childs’ sentencing was scheduled for January 7th, with potential sentences ranging from 40 to 65 years in prison for each murder count, 20 to 40 years for attempted murder, and one to six years for the handgun charge. Childs’ attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
