Angels GM Perry Minasian signs two-year contract extension

General manager Perry Minasian has signed a two-year contract extension with the Los Angeles Angels through 2026. Minasian, who joined the team in 2021, has been credited with starting to lay the foundation for a brighter future for Angels baseball. Owner Arte Moreno praised Minasian for infusing the team with young talent and revamping player development processes.

The Angels are hoping that this continuity will lead to success for a franchise that has experienced eight consecutive losing seasons and nine straight non-playoff seasons. Despite the team’s current struggles, the Angels are keeping faith in Minasian to lead them to a championship.

Minasian, a former batboy for the Texas Rangers, has gradually risen through the ranks in the baseball world, working under experienced executives like Alex Anthopoulos. Although he had no previous experience as a general manager before joining the Angels, Minasian has made efforts to bring in young talent to the team.

Since Minasian’s tenure began, the Angels have not won more than 77 games in a season, and their farm system is still considered one of the worst in the majors. However, Minasian has drafted or acquired several young players who are now contributing to the team in significant ways.

Minasian’s extension comes at a time when key players like Anthony Rendon and Mike Trout have struggled with injuries, hindering the team’s ability to consistently win games. Despite these challenges, Minasian remains optimistic about the team’s future and is grateful for the continued trust and support of the Moreno family.
