House has 48 hours to respond to official request for expulsion

[ad_1]
Scandal-plagued New York Republican Rep George Santos has accepted that he will likely be expelled from the House this week. California Democrat Robert Garcia has filed a privileged resolution to expel him and the House will be required to act on it within two legislative days. Santos, 35, said in a broadcast he will wear his expulsion as “a badge of honor.” This comes after a 56-page Ethics Committee report was released earlier this month outlining “substantial evidence” that Mr Santos violated federal law. The report suggests that the resolution will likely pass, further damaging Santos’s short political career. The congressmen is already facing numerous felony charges and has been saved in the past from previous attempts to expel him. Republicans have participated in and threatened to expedite votes to remove Santos but there’s uncertainty as to whether or not they will back the Democratic resolution to oust Mr Santos. A former chair of the House Committee on Standards of Official Conduct, Rep Zoe Lofgren, has said she will vote to expel George Santos, also known as a remoured fraud and missive user.

Mr Santos released a statement on Twitter declaring that he would not be seeking re-election and claimed that this was due to his unwillingness to work with hypocritical individuals, this also after he made false claims on his background. California Democrat Robert Garcia has filed a privileged resolution to expel Santos. The House will have to handle it within two legislative days, as this is considered an important insurance policy to ensure that the vote happens and that they get rid of him. In 2002 the last member to be expelled was Ohio Democrat Jim Traficant following his conviction on racketeering, bribery, and fraud. He was known for wearing cowboy boots and was one of the most deliberately outrageous members of Congress. Mr Santos, has admitted to fabricating nearly the entirety of his background and is known to have lied about everything from being descended from Holocaust survivors to seeing his mother die on 9/11. He is already facing numerous felony charges and has been saved in the past from previous attempts to expel him. Republicans have participated in and threatened to expedite votes to remove Mr Santos but there’s uncertainty as to whether or not they will back the Democratic resolution to oust Mr Santos.
